This resource is a progressive series of twenty books with themes, stories and illustrations consistent with Indigenous Australian culture. The books are complemented by learning materials that include letters, word and picture cards, activity books, board games, and song and rhyme books.

The Honey ant readers are written in six central Australian Indigenous languages and progress from Aboriginal English to standard Australian English.

The books are written by linguist Margaret James, in consultation with elders in her local community, and are a joint project of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and the Mary McKillop Foundation.
