Healthy catering guidelines for an Indigenous community organisation (2012)

Description

This booklet is designed as a way of increasing the nutritional quality of food provided at the Riverina Medical and Dental Aboriginal Corporation's (RivMed) functions and as an opportunity for the organisation to model healthy eating for its clients.

Topics covered include how to eat and drink well at functions, healthy cooking tips, food safety and hygiene, the seasonality of fruit and vegetables, the best foods to buy for functions, budget ideas and overcoming barriers to healthy catering.

The aims of the booklet are to:

• ensure that the food provided at Indigenous functions meets the social and cultural needs of attendees
• provide catering guidelines which promote healthy, appealing and appetising food
• promote the power of healthy living by the example of providing healthy food choices
• provide food choices that meet both budgetary goals and nutrition targets.
