Audiovisual
This DVD was produced by the Ballarat and District Division of General Practice in collaboration with the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Cooperative and palliative care stakeholders. The DVD portrays the palliative care experience from a Victorian Aboriginal woman's perspective, highlighting lessons learnt from health professionals working with her. These health professionals were members of a care team, who aimed to incorporate the woman's needs while accessing mainstream health services in order to care for her husband.
The DVD was designed to be used by health professionals working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, as well as Aboriginal people themselves to learn about palliative care, and is specifically relevant to Victorian Aboriginal people. It aims to raise awareness for health professionals on how they might tailor services to meet the cultural, social, emotional and spiritual needs of an Aboriginal person.
Copies of the DVD are available, and can be requested by emailing Michelle MacGillivray from Ballarat and District Division of General Practice (contact details provided below). Requests are screened collaboratively by the Ballarat and District Division of General Practice and partner Aboriginal stakeholders.
