This program examines a number of issues relating to carers of people with dementia and aims to equip health professionals with approaches to involve carers and families in the planning and delivery of appropriate care.
The Northern Territory Carers Association provides culturally safe carer respite for Indigenous carers. Section four of the program focuses on 'Addressing respite and cultural issues' and features the case study Indigenous models of dementia care. An innovative respite program which is also featured on this DVD, the Troopy program, provides respite services to the carers and families of people with dementia, some cultural activities of which include fishing and gathering bush tucker.
