Description

This brochure has been created to assist those people in South Australia who are planning to set up a community garden. It highlights how community gardens can be sustainable and environmentally friendly, with brief descriptions on the following topics:

• design to suit the local environment
• select low water-use and non-invasive plants
• conserve water
• minimise non-renewable energy consumption
• provide habitat for native fauna
• avoid harmful chemicals
• use sustainable materials and products

The brochure also includes lists of plants that do not require maximum water:

• vegetables
• herbs
• fruit trees

The list of bush food plants groups tham according to the locations where they grow best:

• general suitability
• Adelaide hills
• Mallee, Riverland
