NSW Younger People in Residential Aged Care (YPIRAC) program (2012)

Description

The NSW Younger People in Residential Aged Care Program (YPIRAC) is a response to the number of younger people with a disability residing in aged care facilities. The NSW YPIRAC Program aims to provide more appropriate living options and practical support for some younger people with a disability living in, or at risk of entry into, residential aged care. The factsheet provided summarises what is offered by the program; who is eligible to receive assistance; and the process with which to apply.

When to use this resource

People who meet the criteria below may want to take note of this factsheet as it outlines who may be eligible to receive assistance.

People who:

• have a disability as defined in the NSW Disability Services Act 1993, acquired after the age of 18 years;
• are a NSW resident;
• are aged under 65 years, however the priority group is people under the age of 50;
• are living permanently in a residential aged care facility, or are at risk of entry into a residential aged care facility, however the priority group is people living permanently in a residential aged care facility; and
• are not eligible to receive assistance through existing programs (however in some cases additional supports may be provided to complement other programs)
