Remote drinking water sources — self-supplied Indigenous communities (2009)

Description

A general guide aimed at improving the quality of drinking water in remote 'self supplied' Indigenous communities in Western Australia (communities with a population of 50 people or less). It looks at the current issues faced by these communities and offers advice on how best to solve the problems occurring.

Information is provided on:

• reducing the impact on water resources from inappropriate land use and related activities (e.g. septic tank or fuel storage sites)
• practices that can be used to protect the quality of water available to the communities

Advice is offered on:

• the location of water supplies
• system design and construction
• risk assessment and management
• water testing
• emergency plans
