Description

This factsheet provides information for people working with individuals at risk of self-harm and suicide or who use volatile substances. The information is presented by way of a flowchart making it easier to follow the steps from identification to referral. There are two flowcharts which include the:

Cairns community flow chart
- providing information on how to identify if someone is at risk of suicide
- the level of risk (high or low)
- a referral guide which depends on the level of risk identified
Chroming/sniffing
- providing information on how to identify if someone is using volatile substances
- what to do if someone has passed out
- how to decide where to go for help.

The factsheet does not provide specific culturally relevant information for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clients.

When to use this resource

This resource was designed for individuals working with people at risk of self-harm and suicide, or youth using volatile substances. Workers can use the information in the flowcharts to determine the risk, strategies that can be used if it is a high risk situation or emergency, and if not, the contact details for organisations to refer clients on for further treatment or advice.
