This article provides an evaluation of the psychological and cognitive assessments considered suitable for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The article presents a review of various psychological, mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, and cognitive assessments that have been used in, or developed for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

This article would be of use to mental health practitioners who want to gain a greater understanding of the assessment tools available to them when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The review also provides a basis from which further research can be undertaken on the development of a national approach for assessing mental health and cognitive functioning among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
