Evidence-based mental health promotion resource (2005)

Description

This report presents an overview of both national and international evidence on the promotion of mental health and wellbeing. The aim of the overview is to contribute to the advancement of policy, research and practice responses to the promotion of mental health across Victoria. The evidence for each topic; social connectedness, violence and discrimination and economic participation is presented as follows:

• a short descrition of the intervention
• the population groups and settings looked at
• an assessment of the effectiveness of the promotion
• a discussion of issues relating to the implentation of the intervention
  
• further comments or observations for some topics
• case studies.

The resource is not Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander specific but does acknowledge the importance of mental health and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

When to use this resource

This resource was developed to assist practitioners as they plan, implement and evaluate mental health promotion programs across Victoria. It provides an evidence base for the mental health promtion programs currently available and a foundation for the development of future programs.
