This educator's resource is a tool to help health workers educate people in their communities about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander guide to healthy eating. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander guide to healthy eating is designed to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people understand the importance of choosing a balanced and varied healthy diet.

The booklet shows how much food is required from each food group on a daily basis for good nutrition and health. It explains how healthy eating throughout life can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and obesity. The foods in the booklet are readily available at stores, and also include some local bushfood and seafood.

When to use this resource

The educator's resource booklet has been designed to assist health professionals educate others about eating for good health. It can be used to provide background information to health workers and other health professionals about healthy eating and to provide a starting point from which to develop a presentation or workshop on healthy eating. It can used for individual, family or group activities.
