Adults Surviving Child Abuse (ASCA)
These guidelines seek to address a gap that currently exists in the knowledge, understanding and practice of complex trauma treatment. Although not a specific focus of the guidelines, Indigenous peoples are identified as one of the groups in the Australian population most likely to have experienced complex trauma.
The effects of complex trauma are pervasive and, if unresolved, negatively impact mental and physical health across the lifespan. Research shows however that the impacts of even severe early trauma can be resolved, and its negative intergenerational effects can be intercepted.
These guidelines present the evidence base needed to translate research into practice.
