Making tracks: health screening for bowel cancer (2010)

Description

This flipchart aims to raise awareness about bowel cancer and bowel cancer screening tests among Indigenous people. It provides information about identifying bowel cancer early to increase treatment opportunities and the possibility of returning to good health. It also emphasises the importance of health checks for men and women. The flipchart covers the following topics:

• the bowel
• bowel cancer
• who is at risk of bowel cancer
• the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer
• how to do a faecal occult blood test
• follow up tests, for example, a colonoscopy
• how to reduce the risks of bowel cancer.

When to use this resource

Use of the flipchart may depend on the needs of a client. It can be used as an educational tool for the National bowel cancer screening program or for general information about bowel cancer and screening tests. It is useful for small group or individual sessions to give Indigenous people the opportunity to take part in their own management and prevention of bowel cancer.
