Description
This program discusses dietary changes that have occurred among Indigenous people since white settlement, and the subsequent health consequences. Barriers to a healthy diet and issues of food security are examined. The panel discuss culturally appropriate programs and policies that are working to improve the diet and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
The program aims to:
- provide an explanation of the historical, cultural and socio-economic factors that contribute to poor nutrition
- describe the link between poor nutrition and chronic disease
- explain the importance of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle for maternal and child health
- encourage the initiation of culturally appropriate strategies for improving nutrition.
