Fetal anomaly screening resources (2010)

Description

The Menzies School of Health Research have developed the Fetal anomaly screening resources from a research project investigating Aboriginal women's views of prenatal screening in the Northern Territory. The resource is designed to assist health care providers in discussing fetal anomaly screening tests with women, their partners and their families. It may also help educators to facilitate discussion about these tests with women (and men) in the community. This resource package includes:

• flipbook: a plain English, illustrated flipbook to assist health providers in describing Down Syndrome and neural tube defects and discussing the steps involved in screening for and diagnosing these conditions during pregnancy.
• take home booklet: a summarised version of the flipbook for women and families to take home.
• folate poster: an A3 poster illustrating foods high in folate, a vitamin important for preventing neural tube defects in the early weeks of pregnancy.
• screening poster: an A3 poster illustrating the steps involved in screening for and diagnosing fetal anomalies in pregnancy.
• DVD (Yolngu language with English subtitles): a film with Yolngu women in the Northern Territory, discussing the choices involved with the screening and diagnostic tests.
