Being safe, not sorry [DVD] (2011)

Description

This program highlights current initiatives which aim to enhance the road safety knowledge of Indigenous Australians to help prevent deaths on the roads. These initiatives include:

• educational plays
• creative song competitions
• programs aimed at assisting Indigenous people to qualify for a driver's license.

The initiatives address Indigenous road safety issues including:

• unlicensed driving
• consuming alcohol before driving or walking near roads
• seatbelt usage
• poor road infrastructure
• driving older vehicles
• overcrowding cars with passengers and using open load spaces like utilities
• inadequate support for obtaining licences
• remote area issues, for example, animals on the road and poor road conditions.
