Grow strong mental health (2005)

Description

This 50-page flipchart has been produced to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with culturally appropriate information on mental health and mental illness. The resource design includes artwork and photographs that are culturally appropriate and relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The information covered in the flipchart includes:

• maintaining strong mental health
• factors involved in the development of mental illness
• how mental illness can make you feel
• changes that can be made to improve mental health
• the three main mental illnesses
• the three main treatment medications
• the three common warning signs of mental illness
• the three common triggers of mental illness
• medication management.

This flipchart forms part of a resource package developed by the Australian Integrated Mental Health Initiative (AIMHI).

When to use this resource

This flipchart can be used to assist health professionals when working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clients with mental illness. The information presented can be used as a guide on different types of mental health issues, how to deal with these issues, and who can help.
