Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing fact sheet series (2009)

Description

This is a series of 10 factsheets that have been developed to raise awareness about different mental health issues among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The information in the factsheets was adapted from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health first aid training manual and the SANE Australia website. Factsheets are available on the following topics:

• social and emotional wellbeing
• grief, loss, and trauma
• mental health problems in our communities
• depression
• suicide
• self-harm
• anxiety disorders
• psychosis
• substance use disorders
• medication.

Each factsheet is two pages and includes a description of the mental health issue and information on where one can access help.

When to use this resource

These factsheets provide factual, jargon-free information on social and emotional wellbeing issues and would be useful for anyone wanting to learn more about these different issues. These factsheets would a useful resource to have at the local medical service for workers to hand out to patients who may be experiencing social and emotional wellbeing issues or to their families.
