Yarning about mental health: an easy guide to mental health assessment (2009)

Description

This flipchart has been designed for health practitioners working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are experiencing mental health problems. The flipchart provides instructions for completing a care plan or a full mental health assessment.

The client care plans are developed by following a 6-step process. The care plans use a strengths based approach to explore the client's strengths, worries, goals, and relapse warning signs.

Instructions for completing the mental health assessment appear towards the end of the flipchart and includes an assessment form, the Severity of Dependence Scale, the Partners in Health Questionnaire, and the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale.

When to use this resource

This flipchart should be used by health workers when conducting mental health assessments on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, or when developing care plans. The flipchart is user-friendly allowing clients to work with the health worker in completing the assessment or care plan.
