Circulation and our heart (2009)

Description

The DVD covers the topics of circulation and the action of the heart, including the role of heart valves. This information is vital for understanding a wide range of illnesses including cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, such as stroke, heart failure and rheumatic heart disease. The DVD has two chapters:

Chapter 1: Circulation - Gulaŋ ŋuli ga marrtji ḻiw'maram limurruŋgal rumbalkurr, includes:

• how blood moves around the body
• how blood carries oxygen, carbon dioxide and by-products of metabolism

Chapter 2: Inside our heart - Djinaga' limurruŋgal ḏoṯurrkŋur, includes:

• a detailed look at the internal (inside) structure of the heart, and the role it takes in circulation
• how heart valves work and their importance in maintaining good cardiac or heart function

When to use this resource

This educational DVD was specifically designed for Aboriginal Health Workers, but will also be useful viewing for community members and/or patients. The information is provided in Yolŋu Matha with English subtitles and can be used to increase the understanding of a wide range of cardiovascular and respiratory illnesses.
