Description
The environmental health officers skills and knowledge matrix was developed as a foundation for a national approach to managing environmental health workforce issues. Included is a section relevant to Indigenous environmental health practitioners.
The following key issues were considered in the production of the matrix:
- a description of the whole environmental health officer (EHO) role, not a specific EHO job
- a statement of common EHO skills and knowledge
- a statement of a minimum level EHO skills and knowledge to perform the role competently
- a statement of skills and knowledge required regardless of whether this is attained through formal education, training and/or experience
- a description of skills and knowledge directly related to the environmental health role
- support for emerging roles based on reported developments in the field
- sufficient detail to underpin the design of assessment processes
