Description

This is a series of factsheets on diabetes. Each factsheet uses colourful pictures and everyday language to explain what diabetes is and how it can impact on a person's life. They also provide tips on how to manage the disease and enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle. Topics covered by the factsheets include:

• what is diabetes and hypoglycaemia?
• ways to manage diabetes
• alcohol and diabetes
• your kidneys and diabetes
• food
• diabetes developed in pregnancy
• physical activity
• reducing risk factors
• smoking and diabetes

When to use this resource

This diabetes resource is a series of culturally appropriate factsheets which have been created for the Indigenous community. Community members may like to take them home to read, or may like to discuss the information with a health professional or health worker who can explain the information in more detail. The factsheets could be handed out at workshops or be made available in diabetes clinics.
