Eh Youpla was launched in September 2008 and is the name given to six radio snippets that were developed by the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisation (AFAO) in collaboration with the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities (QAHC).
These radio snippets were developed due to increasing concern about the silent transmission of HIV from Papua New Guinea to Australia through the Torres Strait. Essentially the radio snippets aim to generate greater awareness about HIV among the Torres Strait Islander community and challenge the dominant perception that HIV is a "gay illness."
The six radio snippets run for 45 seconds each and are spoken in Torres Creole. There are three radio snippets aimed at men and three for women. The snippets are played on Torres Strait Islander radio 4MW at peak audience times.
