This leaflet on depression was designed for the Shoalhaven and Illawarra Aboriginal communities in New South Wales. It provides information on:

• the signs and symptoms of depression
• what depression is
• strategies for managing depression.

When to use this resource

This resource was produced for the Aboriginal people of Shoalhaven and Illawarra in New South Wales but will also be appropriate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in other communities. It contains valuable information on recognising signs and symptoms of depression as well as tips for managing these symptoms. Health professionals could offer the leaflet to clients who are at risk of, or experiencing, depression. The leaflet could also be displayed in places, such as Aboriginal medical services.
