Australian Integrated Mental Health Initiative (AIMHI) resources (2006)

Description

This resource package includes culturally appropriate information on mental health and mental illness for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. A range of mental health promotion resources make up this resource package, including:

• factsheets focusing on the following mental illnesses:
  • anxiety
  • delirium
  • depression
  • mania
  • psychosis
  • medication
• flipcharts titled:
  • Grow strong mental health
  • The mental health brain story
  • Yarning about mental health.

This resource package was produced by the Australian Integrated Mental Health Initiative (AIMHI). This initiative was a five year project which looked at mental health in remote communities to find new ways to deliver services.

When to use this resource

This resource package can be used to assist health professionals when working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clients who have a mental illness. The information presented in the factsheets and flipcharts can be used as a guide on various types of mental health issues as well as an educational tool to be used with clients.
