Online multimedia
This online video features two Western Australian Indigenous women who have experienced depression during the perinatal period (the later stages of pregnancy and shortly after birth). The women speak openly about their depression and offer advice to other mothers who might be struggling. The video also provides information on symptoms and risk factors for perinatal depression, as well as treatment options and getting help. This video is available online or as a DVD (free to order within WA).
Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet abstract
The video would be a useful resource for health workers or practitioners to show to female Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clients who may be at risk of, or experiencing, depression during the perinatal period. Workers could also use this video as a learning resource, to find out more information about the symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options for perinatal depression.
