Journal article
This journal article on schizophrenia treatment guidelines has been developed for mental health professionals. It describes the management of schizophrenia by suggesting treatment options for the different phases of the illness. The guidelines are based on a review of the literature on schizophrenia treatment outcomes and discussions with mental health professionals, patients, and carers. These guidelines are not Indigenous specific guidelines but they will be relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with schizophrenia.
Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet abstract
Mental health professionals should use this information as a guide when treating adults with schizophrenia or related disorders. Practitioners should use this as a guide only because the choice of treatment for someone with schizophrenia will depend on the skill of the practitioner, and the patient's preferences and personal situation.
