The Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice (SCDGP) and North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health (NCACCH) received funding to undertake an Indigenous smoking cessation pilot program as part of the Closing the gap initiative. The No durri for this Murri program was aimed at both Indigenous families and individuals aged 10 years and over. To be eligible for the benefits of the program, families and/or individuals must have been an Indigenous NCACCH client and be motivated to quit smoking. The project commenced implementation with client registrations in November 2010, and as of April 2012, contracts involving GPs, pharmacists, and the SCDGP ceased.
The program continues to be funded by the Department of Health and Ageing, and is now run by the NCACCH. Clients that register will have:
A media campaign, including educational resources and videos, will be implemented as part of the program.
