CREDIT NT was replaced by the Substance misuse assessment and referral for treatment court (SMART court) as of 30 June 2011.
CREDIT NT was a court diversion program targeting individuals whose offences were drug related. It aimed to divert clients into treatment while on bail; progress and efforts related to treatment were acknowledged at sentencing. Clients were assessed and monitored by appropriately qualified Court Clinicians. The primary aims of the program were to provide early substance use treatment for alleged offenders, to minimise harms to the substance user and the community, and to improve the quality of life for the substance user.
CREDIT NT operated in Darwin, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.
