Bugl Booyay - good breathing respiratory program
Overview
This program was established to address the lack of respiratory disease services in Dharah Gibinj Casino, NSW.
The program aimed:
- to raise awareness of lung disease in the local Aboriginal communities
- prevent smoking related chronic respiratory disease
- improve the health outcomes for Aboriginal people suffering from respiratory disease
The objectives of the program were to:
- establish evidence based services targeting prevention and disease management
- train staff in smoking cessation, assessment and management of respiratory diseases
- provide access for the local Aboriginal population to culturally appropriate services
The key elements of the program were:
- lung health and disease awareness
- respiratory assessment clinics
- smoking cessation support
- pulmonary rehabilitation
The Australian Lung Foundation provided support for the program through their Breathe easy, walk easy program.
