The NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has undertaken road safety infrastructure assessments of 66 identified NSW Aboriginal communities. The objective in undertaking these assessments was to identify road safety issues on: roads in Aboriginal communities, state managed roads, and the roads managed by the local council that connect the community to the nearest town to access goods and services.
To understand the needs of Aboriginal communities, the Local Aboriginal Land Council and members of the Aboriginal communities walked and drove with RTA and local council representatives. They identified road safety issues on the roads they use every day.
