Coorong good food program

 

Overview

The Coorong good food program was a collaborative initiative that promoted good food and nutrition in the rural Coorong community in South Australia.

Seven strategies were implemented to achieve the project aims, these included:

The program was considered a success, enabling community members and visitors to make good food choices. Attendance at garden days by community members fostered local pride, school vegetable gardens showed children how to grow fresh vegetables at home for themselves, and the policy resulted in the provision of nutritious foods for students by local school canteens.

The program won a Heart Foundation local government award, with the prize money going towards the continuation of the program.
