The Bulgarr Ngaru alcohol and other drug (AOD) program provides services to Aboriginal clients of the Clarence Valley in Grafton, New South Wales.
Addiction clinics are held for each of the surrounding Baryulgil, Malabugilmah, Yamba and Maclean communities. These clinics include assessment and counselling, referrals to rehabilitation centres and encouraging clients to access the home detoxification program.
AOD workers from the program conduct regular home visits that help cultivate strong relationships between the client and worker and provide an opportunity to monitor clients in their own environment and offer relevant support and encouragement.
The AOD workers may also visits offenders in prison to provide support and health education.
