Fresh kids

Overview

Western Region Health Centre coordinates the Fresh kids program in primary schools across the western suburbs of Melbourne. Fresh kids promotes healthy eating and physical activity using the 'Health Promoting Schools Framework'. In some of the most disadvantaged schools in Victoria, increases from 20-70% in the number of children including fruit in their daily lunchboxes has been sustained over a four year period. Through the implementation of school policy, curriculum initiatives and strategies to engage parents, Fresh kids has demonstrated tht healthy eating can become part of the school culture.

Fresh kids has developed a highly effective model to promote three key messages:

  1. Enjoy fruit and vegetables every day
  2. Drink water instead of sweet drinks
  3. Be active every day
