Koori access project

Overview

In 2003, the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO), consulted with a number of Indigenous health workers to identify factors that prevented access to drug information from the Australian Drug Foundations' DrugInfo Clearinghouse services. With funding from the Premier's Drug Prevention Council, a Koori project worker was employed at the ADF in January 2004 to implement the recommendations arising from the consultation process.

The current phase of the project is aimed at capacity building among Indigenous communities by increasing the relevance and accessibility of DrugInfo Clearinghouse information and services. Specific project outcomes that were implemented include:

The Koori access project advisory committee comprising key stakeholders and workers in the field provided advice and guidance to the project. Consultation and communication with workers in Indigenous communities is ongoing.
