Ngwala Willumbong outreach services

Overview

Ngwala Willumbong provides an outreach service to help Aboriginal people dealing with substance misuse while staying in their community. Residential recovery centres are also offered in various locations. Ngwala Willumbong also provides training for professionals in the delivery of culturally sensitive services for Aboriginal people.

A series of camps, (developed in partnership with the Department of Human Services (DHS), the Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee of the Department of Justice and Victoria Police) for Aboriginal young people aged between 12 to 17 years from the outer metropolitan regions of Melbourne, Victoria, serve as an opportunity to promote self-respect, health and cultural pride. A strict alcohol and other drug free policy is upheld which includes cigarettes and extends to all participants including supervisors and service staff. The camps include a drug and alcohol presentation by the Youth Substance Abuse Service.
