This joint Commonwealth/State program provides transitional supported accommodation and a range of related support services to help people who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness, including people escaping unsecure family and abuses.
This report presents a summary of support provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and accompanying children by the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) during 2006-07. This program was established by the federal and state and territory governments to resolve and prevent homelessness. This report outlines:
* demographic profiles for the Indigenous clients seeking help
* the type of support and the number of periods of support provided
* the type and location of SAAP agencies attended
* main reasons for seeking assistance
* length of support and accommodation
* services required by Indigenous people
* information on individual circumstances pre and post support
