Koori Kitchen Project

Overview

The Koori Kitchen Project involved 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youths from Redfern (in Sydney's inner city) who received cooking lessons at a respected restaurant.

This pilot program ran for 3 months, during which the candidates were trained in food preparation, cooking and food tasting. The project was about giving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youths between 14 and 18 years an experience in a positive learning environment, based on role modeling and skill development. It was centered on nutrition and exposing young people to different types of food and help in developing better eating habits.
