The Indigenous driver licensing program aims to reduce unlicensed driving and the legal, social and actual costs to Indigenous people, their families and communities that arise as a result of unlicensed driving.
The program has a dedicated mobile driver licensing unit based in Cairns that takes Queensland Transport's licence testing service out into communities. This is supported by a community information program to make learning about road rules and responsible driving more accessible to new drivers. The program works in collaboration with communities to address issues of road safety and licensing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
