The Desert feet tour

 

Overview

The Desert feet tour is a no-cost alcohol-free health promotion community event comprising concerts and music education workshops.

The program started in 2008 and aims to inspire Aboriginal children in remote communities in Western Australia (WA) to pursue their dreams and talents.

Diabetes WA Aboriginal Health Team joined the program in 2011 and delivers interactive healthy lifestyle activities such as cooking, storytelling and art in a culturally appropriate and relevant way. The key messages are:

Incentives that promote healthy lifestyles, such as football boots, story books and water bottles are also use to encourage and reward participation.
