Indigenous health consumer and community participation project

Overview

The Indigenous health consumer and community participation project aimed to improve access by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to quality mainstream and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services.

The project focused on increasing the participation in the planning and delivery of health services and developing a skilled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health workforce within all areas of health.

An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander project officer was recruited and community consultation forums were used to form three community-based reference groups. The groups represented three different communities in the area of Logan-Beaudesert in Queensland.

Partnership arrangements were established with key stakeholders including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers and community organisations and other government agencies.
