Yarning about cancer

Overview

Yarning about cancer project aims to support the piloting of culturally appropriate cancer support group models and develop cancer support group facilitator training relevant for Indigenous health professionals and Indigenous community members.  It is a partnership between Cancer Council South Australia (SA)  and the Aboriginal Health Council of SA.

The project was initiated by findings at the Perko Ngurratti Healing Messages Cancer Forum in 2006, which highlighted the need for culturally appropriate support for Indigenous people affected by cancer. It has been included in the recommendations for the Aboriginal Companion Document to the Statewide Cancer Control Plan 2012 - 2015.
