Fish oil program

 

Overview

The Fish oil program aimed to improve the overall heart health of Australians by promoting the benefits of oily fish and fish oil consumption, and by assisting people to make informed decisions about their choice of fish oil product.

The program was an initiative of the Heart Foundation and follows from their position statement on Fish, fish oils, n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and cardiovascular health. The position statement outlines the benefits of fish oil consumption as a source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for a healthy heart.

Since the implementation of the program, further research has been conducted, which has suggested that fish oil supplements don't protect against heart disease.
