Kool Purple Kookas - Traditional Cooking Program

Overview

The Kool Purple Kookas project was a cooking program delivered by Kool Purple Kookas, a not-for-profit organisation in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW).

The project aimed to teach Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children about healthy eating habits and the relationship between a good diet and chronic disease prevention via one-day cooking lessons. The program also encouraged further participation via a web-based cooking competition that encouraged the children to cook healthy meals for their families inspired by local bush tucker.

A community cookbook was developed as a result of the program.

The program was conducted in the NSW communities of Ballina, Coonabarabran, Foster, Moree, Narrandera, Redfern, Singleton, Tingha, Wee Waa, and Wyong.
