This group fitness program is available to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups in New South Wales through the Hunter New England Local Health District.
The program is delivered by a trained and qualified Aboriginal group fitness instructor and a personal trainer. It can be customised according to the needs of participants in the group. Exercises may consist of light activities such as chair exercises and walking, as well as moderate exercises such as brisk walking, circuit and strength training. Sessions are delivered for one hour each week and go for ten weeks. The delivery times and the location of sessions are negotiated with the community group and the trainers.
The program is offered by the Aboriginal Health Unit from the Hunter New England Local Health District in New South Wales and is available to established community groups or to large informal groups of community members or friends.
