Low Cost Spectacle Scheme



The Low Cost Spectacle SchemeĀ (LCSS) aims to address the financial difficulties faced by residents of remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory (NT) in accessing prescribed spectacles.

The LCSS involves the implementation of a payment plan scheme for patients requiring spectacles to alleviate the burden of the up-front full cost involved. The scheme allows patients to pay off their spectacles via Centrepay deduction, employer wage deduction, NT Pensioner and Carer Concession Scheme, income management deduction, Paypal, direct deposit, cash or credit card.

The LCSS is available to residents of rural and remote Indigenous communities throughout the NT. Urban Indigenous people in the NT are also eligible to access the scheme provided they are regular patients of their local Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO).

The users of LCSS are generally those facilitating or coordinating the Outreach Optometry services in rural and remote communities or the ACCHOs themselves. This includes but is not limited to:
