Overview

Listen `ear: a Murri and Ailan ear health campaign is a local initiative of the National Indigenous ear health campaign, Care for kids' ears which aims to reduce the incidence of middle ear infections (otitis media, OM) in Indigenous Australians by:

increasing awareness
highlighting risk factors
promoting the importance of seeking and following treatment to prevent loss of hearing.

Listen 'ear messages are aired on the Brisbane Indigenous Media Association's (BIMA) FM radio station, 98.9fm, and are available as podcasts for streaming and downloading on the BIMA Projects website. A monthly newsletter is also distributed to subscribers and this can be accessed online.

Listen 'ear covers a variety of topics related to OM including:

detecting ear disease
risk factors
the impact on learning
overcrowding
swimming
sharing headphones
infant hearing loss.

The Listen 'ear initiative is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
