Live longer! mobile training van

Overview

Aboriginal training organisation Tauondi College, with project partners the Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia and South Australia Health, has set up a Live longer! mobile training van project which aims to help prevent chronic disease in Indigenous communities across South Australia by providing free two-day training courses in healthy eating, nutrition and horticulture. The caravan will be visiting 21 Indigenous communities by June 2013.

Training graduates will be encouraged to link in with their local Aboriginal community controlled health service to receive ongoing health checks, healthy lifestyle advice and support. They will also work together to create a cookbook which will contain traditional and contemporary recipes that are healthy, practical to make and use locally available ingredients. Graduates can compete to have their recipes included in the cookbook by submitting their recipes to a nutritionist who will make the selection.
