NT gardens

 

Overview

Growing fruit and vegetables in communities is one way to increase the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables, to improve nutrition, and to help decrease diseases. The Menzies School of Health Research, is conducting a research project across the top end of the Northern Territory. It is based on the premise of the potential for horticulture to reduce cardiovascular (heart disease) risk through dietary change in remote Aboriginal communities.

In addition to researching and promoting remote Aboriginal food gardens, a remote school garden and nutrition pilot program will commence in five top end remote schools. The aims of this program are to:
