Overview

The Kununurra women's fishing group was established to provide community support to local women in Kununurra, Western Australia (WA). The group aims to address some of the social issues facing these women, including:

The group runs fortnightly, and provides a culturally secure environment from which the women can share food that they have caught, have a cuppa, a yarn, or just sit quietly in the company of supportive women on their country. Funding from KinWay and Miriuwung Gajerrong Corporation provided vehicles and fishing gear for the group to use.

Abstract adapted from the West Australian Indigenous storybook
